On Monday, August 26th at 1 and 5:30 pm the Campbellsport Public Library will be screening the 1974 version of the Great Gatsby. This was one of the most hyped movies of that summer. Robert Redford stars as self-made millionaire Jay Gatsby who uses his vast fortune to buy his way into Long Island society. Most of all Gatsby wants to win back the love of socialite Daisy Buchanan (Mia Farrow) now married to old money Tome Buchanan (Bruce Dern). Calmly observing the passing parade is Nick (Sam Waterston) Gatsby’s best friend who narrates the film. Francis Ford Coppola’s screenplay is meticulously faithful to the original novel plus the movie’s costume design and music both won Oscars.
The following day, Tuesday August 27th at 1 and 5:30 pm the Library will be showing the 2013 version of the Great Gatsby staring: Leonardo DiCaprio; Carey Mulligan; Isla Fisher; Joel Edgerton and Toby Maquire. Join for these free drop-in showings to see which version of the story you believe was more faithful to the novel. Both of these films are rated “PG-13”. We ask that anyone under the age of 18 please attend the showings with an adult. Free popcorn will be handed out at both showings.
